The Marinduque Moriones Festival

The Island of Marinduque comes alive as the Lenten seasons commence.


Moriones Festival is a colorful, and a religious celebration that links the life story of Longinus with Christ Passion and death. Both men and women wore costumes and masks replicating the biblical Roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks. Penitents will march around the town for seven days searching for Longinus. The towns of the Island of Marinduque becomes a big stage as many local and foreign visitors swarm to see the Sinakulo.


This festivities is also an avenue for the Locals to showcase the products of the province. The festivity ends on the Eastern Sunday as people wake-up at dawn to attend the Salubong.
